Bayern Munich coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised the control of his players in Saturday's "important" win over Cologne.

The Bundesliga champions continued their inexorable dominance at the top with a 3-0 win, Javi Martinez, Juan Bernat and Franck Ribery all on the score sheet.

And Ancelotti believesthat the win demonstrated impressive patience and professionalism.

"It was a good game," Ancelotti said after the game - viaESPN."We are pleased with the result, it was an important game.

"We had some difficulties before we opened the scoring as Cologne's defensive organisation was good. But after Martinez's goal we had more space for our counter-attacks. We had good control of the game in the second half."

Ahead of Bayern's Champions League last 16 second leg game against Arsenal on Tuesday, Ancelotti also gave an update on winger Douglas Costa, who limped off in the second half against Cologne.

"Costa had a painful knock on his left leg and had to come off, but it's nothing serious and he'll be able to play against Arsenal," he said.

Goal scorer Ribery said: "We played well from the start today in a tricky game. A 3-0 win in Cologne is great as they are a good team, enjoying a good season."

Bayern remain seven points clear of second placed RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga standings, and take a 5-1 lead to the Emirates in the Champions League on Tuesday.
