Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised the 'great character' of his players after Saturday's 2-0 win at Ingolstadt.

The Bundesliga leaders struggled to break down a resilient home side, but injury time goals fromArturo Vidal and Arjen Robben eventually secured the three points.

The late win was made even more significant as the other sides in the top four - RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund - all lost, leaving Bayern seven points clear at the top.

And Ancelotti was clearly pleased by the attitude of his players in what proved to bea difficult game against lowly Ingolstadt.

"It was an important victory for us, which we fought hard for," he said - viaGoal."We had to improve significantly in the second half and we were able to reward ourselves in the end.

"Ingolstadt were defensively very good, but we knew we could win here. We showed a great character."

Captain Philipp Lahm, who announced his retirement last week, echoed the sentiments of his coach, and claimedthat there was an element of luck in the victory.

"Everyone saw it was very, very difficult to play our passing game on this turf," he toldthe club's website."We accepted it and knew the one-on-ones would be crucial.

"Ingolstadt often play long balls, so it was important to win the ball after the second pass. We could have taken the lead through Lewy in the first half and through Thomas in the second. If you score so late you have to admit luck is involved."
