Benfica dismiss Felix rumours

Published on: 18 June 2019

Portuguese champions Benfica have strongly denied that they are close to agreeing a deal which would see rising star Joao Felix leave the club.

The 19-year-old forward has become one of the most in-demand talents in Europe in recent months, having scored 20 goals in all competitions for the Eagles last season as they won the Portuguese league for the 37th time.

He was also part of the national team squad who won the inaugural Nations League.

A number of clubs in Spain and England have been linked with strong interest in Felix, but his current employers are adamant that there is no deal in the pipeline as things stand.

An official club statement read: "In view of the set of news published in these last hours, Benfica clarifies that it is false that any negotiation process is currently under way regarding a possible transfer of player Joao Felix.

"The conditions for its negotiation are public and known, taking into account the termination clause defined in the amount of 120 million euros."

Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been mentioned as potential suitors for Felix, with Atletico Madrid also reported to be showing strong interest.

Meanwhile, Portugal are available at 16/1 to successfully defend their European Championship crown next year, with Spain priced at 7/1 and Italy 16/1.
