Bernard Nana Yaw Amofa Jantuah, the bankroller of Berekum Chelsea and Business magnate has called on government to assist the Ghana Football Association to secure sponsorship for the Premier League.
The domestic football governing body are yet to secure a sponsor for the upcoming Ghana Premier League following betpawa contract termination last year.
Betpawa terminated its sponsorship with the Ghana Premier League last year after just a year and three months into their three-year deal with the FA.
However, the business mogul, who is worried about lack of sponsorship for the Ghanaian top-flight has called on government to help the FA get a sponsor for the league.
“I think we lack a lot of infrastructure. There is no sponsorship for the Ghana Premier League. The cost involved in running a club isn’t easy, so I will plead with government to help the FA secure sponsorship in order relieve clubs from their burden” he told Kessben FM, as followed by Footballghana.com.
“It’s very difficult to run football in Ghana. The league cannot boast of 200, 000 dollars for a season which is worrying. The winner of our league takes home GHC500,000, so if you are unable to sell some players, you will run at a lost. We are indeed struggling” he said.
Meanwhile, Berekum Chelsea are preparing for the upcoming Ghana Premier League campaign scheduled for September.
Berekum Chelsea won the Ghana Premier League in 2011 and are poised to win their second league title next season.
