A Besiktas SK Spokesman, Hüseyin Yücel, has narrated how Ghana international Daniel Amartey did everything possible to avoid being transferred from the club this summer.

He claimed the former Leicester City defender escaped through the back door during negotiations to foil a transfer Turkish lower-tier club, Eyüpspor.

The 29-year-old featured in only 18 Turkish Super Lig matches last season after joining on a free transfer from Leicester. Just 12 of those appearances were starts as he struggled with injuries throughout the season.

Amartey was the subject of interest from multiple teams, including Al-Shabab from Dubai and Al-Fayha from Saudi Arabia.

Besiktas were reportedly desperate to get him out of the club as his contract is set to expire in June 2026 but they see him as a liability.

"Amartey is a strange person. We made an agreement with a team from Saudi Arabia, but they did not get on the plane,” Hüseyin Yücel as reported by respected journalist, Ibrahim Sannie Daara.

“We agreed with Eyüpspor, he escaped through the back door of our facilities. He said, "I will go to Germany or England." When he was told 'the transfer window is closed', he said 'how will it close?'”
