Better Late Than Never! Neymar Finally Hits Back at Toni Kroos Over New Year's Eve Jibe

Published on: 07 January 2017

Rarely one to shy away from the limelight, Neymar has finally responded to Toni Kroos' infamous New Year's jibe - albeitwith a rather lacklustre comeback.

Brazil were dumped out of the 2014 World Cup on their own turf thanks to a 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Germany, a game in which Kroos was twice on the scoresheet, and the Real Madrid midfielder used the start of 2017 to remind fans of that fateful day with this Twitter post:

Los Blancos teammate and victim of the 7-1 drubbing, Marcelo, was one of the first to respond to the jibe with the following indirect tweet which roughly translates to:

'Happy New Year to everyone, great health and RESPECT to others always!'

Feliz año a todos mucha salud y RESPETO a los demás siempre!
Feliz ano novo a todos muita saude e RESPEITO Ao próximo sempre! 

Brazil legend Ronaldo was also quick to respond to Kroos' comment, taking the opportunity to remind the midfielder of their 2-0, 2002 World Cup Final win - a game in which Ronaldo scored both goals.

Neymar returned to Kroos' post, a week late, highlighting the fact that Brazil have won five World Cups to Germany's four by addinga simple single-emoji response - not the best comeback from the Barcelona man.

Having missed the opportunity to mock Kroos by bringing up Brazil's 2016 Rio Olympic final triumph, Neymar will have the opportunity to get one over on the German by beating them in the next El Classico on April 23rd.
