BIG BLOW: Ghana deputy captain Thomas Partey likely to miss 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to muscle injury

Ghana international, Thomas Partey is likely to miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) according to reports.

The midfielder has been out of action since October. The 30-year-old has not featured for Arsenal since the October International friendly games.

Partey having featured in Ghana's two games against Mexico and the USA missed the Gunners' trip to Chelsea.

Ahead of their Champions League tie against Sevilla, the club confirmed that Partey has suffered a muscle injury during a training session.

Mikel Arteta, who is the head coach for the side in a press conference said Partey's injury us a big blow and is not sure when he will return to full action.

Due to injury, Partey has been left out of Ghana's squad for the first qualifiers of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros slated for this month.

After multiple scans conducted by specialists, Partey has been ruled out for the rest of the year despite earlier reports suggesting that he will return in December.

According to Football Writer, John Cross of The Mirror UK Newspaper, the former Atletico Madrid player has undergone a thigh procedure treatment with specialists and the prognosis is that he is set to sit out for the rest of the year.

With the latest reports, Partey, who serves as the deputy captain for the Black Stars is now likely to miss Africa's prestigious tournament next year.

The last time Thomas Partey featured against Arsenal against Manchester City. Partey has played five games in all competitions this season and is yet to score.

The Black Stars will host Madagascar on November 17 before travelling to face Comoros on November 21.

After World Cup qualifiers, the Black Stars will then focus on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana have been housed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
