Karen Carney came on as a second-half substitute against former club Birmingham
England forward Karen Carney missed a penalty as champions Chelsea Women were held to a third successive away goalless WSL draw at Birmingham City.
Carney's second-half effort was tipped around the post by Birmingham keeper Ann-Katrin Berger after Kerys Harrop was adjudged to have fouled Ji So-Yun.
Berger also saved at the feet of Fran Kirby and tipped over a Ji header as Chelsea created the better chances.
Birmingham finished the game with 10 players after Hayley Ladd was sent off.
But the defining moment came in the 74th minute when Carney, who started on the bench at the end of the week when she was the subject of "abhorrent" rape and death threats on social media after scoring the winner from the spot against Fiorentina in the Champions League on Wednesday, was denied by Berger diving to her left.
Ladd was sent off with five minutes to go after picking up a second booking but Chelsea were unable to break down the resolute Blues defence.
The closest they came to a late winner was when Ji's header was saved, although boss Emma Hayes will point to other chances to take the lead.

Chelsea, who previously drew 0-0 away at both Bristol City and Everton, have now only won one of their opening six games this season, scoring just twice.
