Black Queens forward Sandra Owusu Ansah reacts to 2021 FIFA Puskas award nomination

Black Queens striker Sandra Owusu-Ansah has reacted to the 2021 FIFA Puskas Award nomination.

The 2021 FIFA Puskas Award nominees were unveiled on Monday which included Ghana forward Sandra Owusu Ansah.

The Black Queens player who now plays her football in Serbia is among eleven nominees for the prestigious award given to the scorer of the best goal of the calendar year.

The 21-year-old and Algerian captain Riyad Mahrez were the only Africans on the list for this year's price which will be awarded on January 17, 2022.

Owusu Ansah scored the world-class goal on May 8, 2021, in the Women's Premier League match between her former club Supreme Ladies and Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies. From long-range, she volleyed the ball over the goalkeeper into the net.

In an interview with Angel FM in Accra, the Spartak Subotica player expressed delight on her nomination and has therefore set sights on winning the prestigious award.

“First of all, I will give thanks to God because it is not easy to get nomination like this, so am grateful to him”

Asked if she is confident of annexing the award, she said, “I am very confident that I will win it because I know Ghanaians are behind me. I thank Ghanaians for their support from day one until now so I am confident I will win it” she said.

Meanwhile, she becomes the fourth Ghanaian to be nominated. Michael Essien is the first for his goal against Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League semi-finals, followed by Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Kevin-Prince Boateng.
