Black Stars: Good coach will reject attempts to impose players on him – Bawku Central MP

Former Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga is convinced that a good coach will be able to stand the pressure of attempts to influence player selection by Ghana Football Association officials.

It has now become a widely held perception that officials of the Ghana FA impose players on coaches, with former Ghana coach CK Akonnor also admitting to it publicly.

Speaking to GhanaWeb in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga said FA officials can only make recommendations.

“If you have a coach worth his salt, nobody in the FA will be able to influence him as to his choice of players.

“You’ll only make your recommendations, he’ll access them and sometimes your recommendations make sense, he’ll accept them and if they don’t make sense he’ll reject them.

“There’s nothing you can do about it because he’s a coach worth his salt.”

The Black Stars are without a coach again after the sacking of head coach Chris Hughton following Ghana’s poor showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
