The Black Stars of Ghana has experienced a significant decline in the February FIFA World Rankings due to their disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The team, which held the 61st position at the end of 2023, has now dropped to 67th globally and has fallen further down the rankings on the African continent.

Ghana now holds the 14th position in the CAF rankings, with Cape Verde, South Africa, and DR Congo surpassing the four-time AFCON winners.

The shifts in the rankings follow the completion of the 2023 AFCON, which was hosted in Cote d'Ivoire. The host team, the Elephants, triumphed in a home campaign.

Ghana was eliminated in the group stage after earning only two points from their three matches against Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

Among the African teams, Côte d’Ivoire (39th, up 10) reaps the rewards of their continental success on home turf.

Despite making significant progress, Nigeria, the runners-up (28th, up 14), are outpaced by Angola (93rd, up 24), the team they defeated in the quarter-finals, who are the most improved side in the latest global rankings.
