This season, Christopher Antwi-Adjei has spent some time watching from the sidelines for VfL Bochum. He discusses the World Cup and his condition before the home game against Union Berlin.
For the first time this season, Christopher Antwi-Adjei started for VfL Bochum against SV Elversberg in the cup.
Only five substitutions have been made in the Bundesliga by the 28-year-old winger thus far. Antwi-Adjei has only played 19 minutes this season.
"I wouldn't say it's the change of coach," he says.
"Of course, I got more playing time last season. But I was also set back twice by injuries. If I'm healthy, I can help the team. But that applies to every player in the squad. It's up to everyone to identify with performance to earn a place in the starting XI,"
After 10 match days, VfL sits at the bottom of the standings. The distance between the bottom half and safety is already four points.
"Of course we're not giving up," emphasizes Antwi-Adjei.
"You saw in the win against Frankfurt how quickly you can catch up with the other teams. Unfortunately, we couldn't build on that against Stuttgart. But if we start a small series, you're back on track very quickly,"
He has played three times for the Ghana national team, most recently last June. However, he was not invited to the most recent games in September.
"From time to time there is contact, most recently two or three weeks ago," says Antwi-Adjei about the exchange with national coach Otto Addo.
"Now there isn't that much time left. I can only step on the gas on the pitch - everything else is up to the national coach,"
