Bolt's Mariners adventure over

Usain Bolt's stint with Central Coast Mariners is over, after the Olympic sprint great failed to agree a deal.

The Gosford club revealed last month that they had made an offer to the Jamaican, after he scored two goals in a practice match against Macarthur South West United.

But while Bolt was reportedly looking for around $3 million, the Mariners were only prepared to offer around $150,000 and said they would need to find a commercial partner to boost his salary.

Central Coast revealed the eight-time Olympic gold medallist's trial wouldn't be continuing unless and until they could agree to terms.

He had appeared in two games for the club, and had reportedly turned down a two-year deal with Maltese league champions Valletta FC in order to pursue a Mariners contract.

Central Coast Mariners owner Mike Charlesworth said: "Despite the fact that we could not come to an agreement that would continue Usain Bolt's football journey with the Central Coast Mariners, we've been thrilled to have the Olympic champion sprinter and world record holder as part of our club for these past eight weeks."

Charlesworth added it had been a pleasure to work with Bolt as he pursued his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

He said: "This has been a mutually beneficial partnership that brought an increased level of excitement and attention to both the Mariners and the Hyundai A-League.

From day one, Usain dedicated himself to being part of the Mariners. He integrated very well into the team and made great strides as a footballer."

Bolt released a statement through the club thanking owners, management, staff, players and fans for making him feel welcome during his time there.

Central Coast are 5/2 to win their next game against Adelaide United, who are 1/1 with the draw 14/5.
