Girondins de Bordeaux coach Paulo Sousa has opened up about his decision to substitute Ghanian defender Enock Kwateng at half-time in the Ligue 1 game against FC Metz on Saturday.

Bordeaux edged out FC Metz, winning 2-1 at the Stade Saint-Symphorien on match day 24 of the on-going league season.

Kwateng was substituted early on in the game after picking up a knock in the 20th minute.

Ibrahima Niane gave the home side the lead in the 2nd minute of the game but Toma Basic scored the equaliser in the 51st minute before Remi Oudin bagged the match winner in the 84th minute to pick up all three points for the visitors.

Speaking after the game, hos coach Paulo Sousa said, "Enock was down, yes , and that’s why we pulled him out. He’s a powerful player who gives you breadth but he also made the decision to come with the ball inward, to do one-two and work in his lane."

"He's a player who can give you a lot, but we made the decision to take him out because on a physical level he didn't feel really completely fine."
