Borussia Dortmund will always be something special for me – Otto Addo on departure

Ghana new coach Otto Addo has paid glowing tribute to German giants Borussia Dortmund as he departs the club at the end of the season.

The former Ghana international has been appointed for a second spell with the national team following the sacking of Chris Hughton.

The former Premier League tactician was shown the exit door together with his technical team following the Black Stars calamitous performance in Ivory Coast.

Ghana suffered elimination from the tournament after failing to progress from the group stage.

After almost one-month search, the Ghana FA has settled on Dortmund’s talent coach Otto Addo to take over the Black Stars on a 34-month contract with an option for a further 24-months.

"It was not easy for me to make this decision, but I am very grateful and happy that those responsible at BVB are allowing me to take this step."

"Borussia Dortmund will always be something special for me - I celebrated my greatest successes here as a player and also experienced an incredible amount as a coach. I will definitely miss my colleagues, the boys, the club, and the fans."

He will begin his reign as head coach of the national team during the March international break. Ghana will play Nigeria and Uganda on March 22 and March 26 respectively.

Otto Addo will return to Dortmund after the international break to continue his job with the club until the end of the season. He is expected to assume permanent Ghana role in May.

Addo's return to Ghana marks his second stint with the national team, following his successful guidance of the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar during his initial tenure.
