Brian Brobbey: I really wanted to return to Ajax this summer despite Manchester Utd interest

Ghanaian youngster, Brian Brobbey has disclosed that he always had his sight set on returning to Ajax this summer despite the interest from Manchester United.

The striker became a subject of transfer talk last month when it came to light that new Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag had reached out to him to join him in England.

However, Brian Brobbey decided to sign for Ajax, a team he left while working under ten Hag the previous season to join German Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.

Speaking on his decision to return to Ajax, Brian Brobbey says it is because he has unfinished business.

He said: “I absolutely wanted to go to Ajax. Erik also wanted to work with me, texted once if I was open to it, but I thanked him nicely. I wanted to go back.

“My friends here, Ajax’s playing style, it just wasn’t finished yet. I first have to really succeed here as a striker of Ajax 1.”

Brian Brobbey added, “That’s also how the past six months felt, when I played here on a rental basis. I really had the feeling afterward: I really have to go back.”

This summer, Ajax paid a sum of £13million to sign Brian Brobbey from RB Leipzig.

He has been playing regularly for the team but is yet to find his goal-scoring form.
