Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi was full of praise for Ghana international Tariq Lamptey in midweek after helping the team to defeat Arsenal in the EFL Cup.

The versatile player was surprisingly played on the left side of defense instead of his preferred right side.

To the amazement of his manager, the Black Stars new boy excelled and even scored to help Brighton & Hove Albion to come from behind to beat Arsenal in the Third Round of the EFL Cup.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi said, “Lamptey on left. I did not want to play with Estupinan but he (Lamptey) can play left side and I think he played well.”

Assessing the performance of the Ghana defender and other players including Levi Colwill, Billy Gilmour, Julio Enciso and Jeremey Sarmiento, the Italian added, "They have the right level to play the games. I hope they start to believe more. To play in this stadium against these teams - Arsenal, or Chelsea, Man United or City - you have to believe in yourself. You have to believe in your quality and they have this quality and ability and I want that more and more.”

Reports gathered from sources is that Tariq Lamptey has made the final 26-man squad for Ghana for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
