Brighton move suits Trossard

Published on: 25 June 2019

Leandro Trossard is looking forward to working under Graham Potter after agreeing a long-term contract with Brighton.

The Genk captain is set to pen a five-year contract with the Seagulls and will move to the south coast side for a club record £18million.

Trossard said: "I have a good feeling with Brighton. I had a good conversation with Graham Potter. He wants to play attacking football. It's a club that can offer me a lot of minutes."

Arsenal and Aston Villa had also been keen to sign the 24-year-old who helped Genk win the Belgian League title last season, scoring 22 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Brighton know that they will be without Jose Izquierdo at the start of the 2019/20 campaign as the Colombian has been forced to have a second knee cartilage operation.

Potter, who joined the Seagulls from Swansea City, has also signed Portsmouth's central defender Matt Clarke this month and is set to welcome the Brighton players back for the start of pre-season training on Thursday.

Trossard and Clarke could feature in the Seagulls' first pre-season friendly on 13th July against opponents yet to be confirmed.

Brighton, 15/8 to be relegated this season, are 3/1 to beat Watford at Vicarage Road on the opening weekend of the campaign.
