BT Pundit Steve McManaman Claims Arsenal's Strikers Aren't Good Enough to Win Trophies

BT Sport pundit Steve McManaman has questioned Arsenal's title credentials, despite their impressive form which sees them joint top of Premier Leaguewith both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Alexis Sanchez was once again on-song in last weekend's 4-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Chilean grabbed two goals to help the Gunners maintain their position at the top of the table, however McManaman has questioned whether the club's strikers are good enough to help them sustain their title challenge.

Speaking for BT Sport on Saturday, as quoted by theSport Review, the former Liverpool star said:Theo Walcott can play as a centre-forward but you're not going to win the Champions League and the Premier League with Walcott.

Alexis Sanchez can play there because he's a great player but I don't think [Arsenal can win the league] with Sanchez playing up front. I think you need more.I would have loved to have seen them have a better centre-forward than Sanchez and Giroud.

Walcott missed the victory over Sunderland due to illness but Frenchman Olivier Giroud proved his value to the team, coming on as a second half substitute to inspire Arsenal to victory.

With the game locked at 1-1 after 70 minutes, Giroud grabbed himself a brace by scoring with his first few touches to help swing the momentum back in Arsenal's favour, before Alexis Sanchez completed his brace by netting a fourth late on.

With summer signing Lucas Perez now injured for several weeks, Arsene Wenger will have been relieved to see Giroud and Sanchez in good form as the Gunners head into a crucial set of fixtures in November.

Premier League matches against Tottenham and Manchester United will help establish the Gunner's true title credentials, whilst also putting McManaman's thoughts on the team's forwardsto the test.
