Burnley 3-2 Bournemouth: Jeff Hendrick Peach the Difference in Turf Moor Thriller

Published on: 09 December 2016

In a game defined by three goals of delightful quality, Burnley hauled themselves further from the relegation zone with another strong home performance.

Burnley had collected thirteen of their fourteen points this seasonat home, and looked to return to form at Turf Moor having lost 4-0 and 2-0 in succession on the road.

Bournemouth were looking to continue thriving after a miraculous4-3 win at home to Liverpool, but had struggled almost as much away from home as Burnley had.

As applause rang out in the eighth minute for Harry Arter on the anniversary of his stillborn child,Bournemouth were beginning to take a measure of control in the early goings.

After that promise, it was all whisked away by an absolute 'worldie' of a strike on the half-volleyby Jeff Hendrick from the edge of the box. An absolute peachflew in past Boruc, to the delight of the home fans, but it was the pair of beautiful touches to control the ballwhich made the goal special.

They were back on their feet again just minutes later. A corner from Steven Defour bounced around and was converted on the rebound by a sliding Stephen Ward. An extraordinary start from Sean Dyche's men, and the Cherries would have to replicate last week's heroics.

Michael Keane forced a great save from Boruc from a header as Burnley attempted to kill the game off. Eddie Howe looked helpless on the touchline.

As time passed, the Clarets appeared happy to take the 2-0 lead into halftime. Imagine the disappointment when they afforded Benik Afobe a simple strike from close range to get Bournemouth a goal back.

Dyche was furious, because the referee had played more stoppage time than originally indicated. An eventful half.

The second half started brightly, but with little in the way of chances. Ashley Barnes's volley over after his introduction from the bench came ten minutes into the half, before Jack Wilshere was subbed on.

Burnley continued to make chances, and Barnes's free kick nearly picked out Ben Mee.Andre Gray was left red-faced after a howler of a miss when it seemed easier to score.

On the other hand, not many fans will remember that after the second beauty of the game was dispatched past Boruc. Gray's slick back heel was slammed into the net by George Boyd. Game over?

Burnley now lead 3-1. Bournemouth have them right where they want 'em.

It looked like the comeback would not be on this time, as Burnley continued to keep Bournemouth at 'arm's length'. Afobe had the ball in the net, but the referee believed it had struck his arm, although replays did seem to indicate that the chest had been struck.

Another cracker was scored, and the suggestion of the game being over was thrown into doubt. Charlie Daniels was the one to blast home in stoppage time and leave a few home fans biting their fingernails.

Too little too late, though, and the whistle blew. A crucial win for Burnley.
