Burnley Chairman Reveals His Best Signing During His Decade at the Club

Burnley chairman Mike Garlick has named striker Sam Vokes as his best value signing over the course of his ten-year tenure at the helm of the Turfmoor club.

Garlick, as part of an expansive interview with theLancashire Telegraph, has claimed the Welshman, who arrived at the club for £350k from Wolves in 2012, is just ahead of club captain Tom Heaton in terms of value for money.

"Buying Sam Vokes, that was the best signing, for £350k, from a value perspective," Garlick explained. "[Former Burnley manager] Eddie [Howe] said 'Mike, he'll contribute, but he won't score many goals' - look how it's worked out, he's done fantastic. Tom Heaton as well, that was a good one."

Garlick also went on to pay tribute to Clarets' manager Sean Dyche, who has lead the club to two Premier League promotions, since his appointment in 2012, after Howe was tempted back to Bournemouth.

"We had a long interview process, we saw about fifteen candidates and we whittled it down to two. I had a difficult evening the night before convincing the other directors that there was only one person [for the job] and thankfully they went with it.

"I had a personal connection [with Dyche] through a guy who I'd done business with who knew him very well. He said he couldn't recommend him for his qualities as a football manager because he knew nothing about football.

"But he could recommend him as a person in terms of his ethics, integrity, and behaviour. I thought that was very important. He's turned around everything slowly but surely.

"He's had his tough moments as well, but we stuck with him and never questioned him. We could see he was trying to do the right things."

Dyche takes his Burnley side, including Vokes and Heaton to West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, looking for a first away win of the season.
