Burnley matchwinner Jeff Hendrick: No way I could miss that one!

Burnley matchwinner Jeff Hendrick was delighted with his goal in victory over Newcastle United.

Hendrick grabbed 74th-minute winner to give Burnley boss Sean Dyche victory to mark his fifth anniversary in charge of the Clarets.

“It was a tight game. We knew that coming into it," said Hendrick after his second goal of the season also gave Burnley a second home win.

“We watched clips on them and they are quite similar to us. They keep it tight and they're hard to break down.

“But we knew if we kept going they concede goals in the second half and thankfully we got that goal.

“I was hoping the full-back didn't get a head on it and then I had plenty of time and an open goal.

“If I had missed that, I could have just walked off the pitch, that would have been me done. Thankfully, I had enough time and put it away."

The Clarets are now out of the top six only on goal difference.

“We are happy with where we are. We know we have got a lot of hard games and there's still plenty to play for," Hendrick added.

“We've just got to keep it going. We learned a lot from last year. We've got a great group here and we're not just going to look at the league table and be happy with that and settle for that.

“We've got to keep going and keep getting points on the board. We've got to keep fighting and keep winning games and at the end of the season, wait and see where we are."
