Burnley are targeting Barnsley centre-back Marc Roberts as they prepare for bids fordefender Michael Keane in January, according toThe Sun.

Roberts impressed during his spell at non-league side Halifax Town, earning a move to Barnsley in 2015. His performances in the Championship have seen him linked with Premier League sides, such as Burnley andWest Brom.

Tony Pulis already has the likes of Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley available to him, however, and Roberts would be seen as a squad player.

Roberts, 26,has made 17 Championship appearances so far this season, scoring twice and assisting twice with Barnsley currently in 11th position in the league.Keane, 23, has impressed since joining Burnley last year, earning an England call up in October for his performances in the Premier League.

It is thought both Leicester and Chelsea are interested in former Manchester United youngster Keane.

The Foxes have looked unsure at the backso far this season, with both Robert Huth and Wes Morgan unable to replicate the incredible form shown during their title win last year.

Chelsea have impressed ever since switching to a back three, but require strength in depth with the likes of John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic expected to move on in the near future.

Burnley have a lack of depth at centre-back, with Ben Mee currently partnering Keane at the back with James Tarkowski and Kevin Long seen as the reserve options behind the pair.

Burnley are currently 13th in the Premier League, having beaten Bournemouth 3-2 on Saturday.
