Caceres secures City loan stint

Published on: 26 June 2018

Anthony Caceres is back with Melbourne City for a second stint, with Warren Joyce's side also bolstered by deals for Osama Malik and Lachlan Wales.

Midfielder Caceres has been on the books of Manchester City for the past two years, with the Premier League champions having paid $300,000 to sign him from Central Coast.

He hasn't made a first-team appearance for City so far but has had two successful loan stints, including one in Melbourne.

Caceres played 42 games for City in his first spell during which he came off the bench to help them win the 2016 FFA Cup final against Sydney FC.

He then spent a year with Al-Wasl in the UAE Pro League with the Dubai-based side deciding not to take up their option of buying him from City.

Wales, who like Caceres is an attacking midfielder, joins after playing 11 games for Central Coast. The 20-year-old spent his entire junior career on the Central Coast, making his A-League bow last term.

Central defender Malik has inked a one-year contract extension, having played 32 times for City over the past two seasons. The Australia U-20 international had previously spent five years with Adelaide United.

City's director of football Michael Petrillo said: "We are entirely focused on building the best possible team to help us achieve our ambitions this season.

"Anthony is a talented, committed player who trains as he plays and will fit back in to the team with ease, and Osama has been a versatile and consistent contributor over the last two seasons and provides different options to the team.

"Lachlan is a strong young talent with significant potential. We look forward to getting the full squad in training and ready for next season."

Melbourne City are 5/1 to win the 2018/19 minor premiership and 5/1 to win the Grand Final.
