CAF CONFED. CUP: Asante Kotoko 1-0 CARA - Yakubu Mohammed's late penalty saves Kotoko

Asante Kotoko defeated Congolese side CARA Brazzaville 1-0 Sunday at home in their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round qualifier. 

Supporters who trooped to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be disappointed after the team failed to took their chances.

Substitute Yakubu Mohammed managed to nail it in injury time through a penalty after three previous spot kicks were squandered.

The Congolese side had a glorious opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty but goalkeeper Chansel Massa who had saved two spot-kicks- missed from 18 yards as his opposite number Felix Annan saved.

Referee Issa SY from Senegal will make the headlines for awarding five penalties in a match.

His first call was in the sixth minute but striker Saddick Adams couldn't put the ball in the net.

However, skipper for Asante Kotoko, Amos Frimpong followed next with a miss after Kwame Boahene had been brought down before the hour mark.

After 70 minutes, the referee awarded another spot kick to Kotoko but Baba Mahama also failed to put the ball in the net.

The Porcupine Warriors will be hoping to build on the mistakes in the second league in Brazzaville.
