CAF/FIFA funded excursion trips for Ghana supporters – Isaac Asiamah

Published on: 25 July 2019

Ghana’s Minister for Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has taken a U-turn to stress that CAF and FIFA funded the excursion trips for Black Stars supporters during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament contrary to earlier reports that suggested that it was his sector.

Ghana ended her AFCON campaign at this year’s tournament in disappointing fashion when the Black Stars were knocked out at the round of 16 stage by the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

Having airlifted supporters from Ghana to Egypt, the Minister is on record disclosing that his sector had made arrangement to take the group on a tour to visit historic sites in the North African country.

Giving an account of the expenditure on the Black Stars at Parliament on yesterday, however, Hon. Isaac Asiamah has changed his narrative and noted that the funding for the excursion of the team came from CAF and FIFA.

“Mr. Speaker as part of the measures to boost the morale of the team, the Ministry sponsored Ghanaian supporters to Egypt to support them”.

“The supporters were Ismailia in Egypt where the Black Stars were based. CAF and FIFA organized excursions for all the supporters of the participating nations including Ghana”,

“Mr. Speaker despite all the support for the Black Stars the team performed below expectations”, he said.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians continue to express their displeasure to what they describe as unnecessary spending on the Black Stars.
