CAF has unexpectedly confirmed Walid Regragui as Morocco's new national coach

Walid Regragui, the former Wydad coach, will be confirmed as Morocco's national manager for the 2022 World Cup by the Moroccan federation today.

CAF has already announced that Walid Regragui will be the new head coach of the Moroccan team.

“The five qualified African countries will take part in the FIFA World Cup for the first time with coaches from their continent,” CAF said in a statement on Monday. Introducing Regragui, 46, as the new coach of Morocco's Atlas Lions football club.

CAF's announcement did not go down well with Moroccan football officials who had planned to unveil the name of Morocco’s football team coach at a much-publicized press conference.

If confirmed today, Regragui would take over from Vahid Halilhodzic, who was fired earlier this month by the FRMF.
