The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has confirmed that matches in the quarter-final of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament scheduled to be played at the Olembe Stadium will now be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

The decision has become necessary after the stampede incident at the Olembe Stadium on Monday evening.

Yesterday, host nation Cameroon locked horns with debutant Comoros in a Round of 16 game.

On the matchday, a stampede occurred when the stadium was closed to supporters when some fans tried to force their way into the venue.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, CAF President Patrice Motsepe said the quarter-final match that would have been played at the venue should be moved to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium

Meanwhile, eight persons have been confirmed dead while many others were injured after the crash outside the Stadium on Monday.
