CAF U-23 AFCON: Black Meteors to depart Ghana for Egypt today

The Black Meteors of Ghana will leave the shores of Ghana today to Egypt ahead of the start of the 2019 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which starts on Friday, November 8, 2019.

The West African side is one of the eight (8) qualified teams that will be battling for glory in the tournament as well as qualification to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ibrahim Tanko and his Meteors wrapped up training over the weekend when they engaged Shooting Stars in a friendly game at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match ended 2-0 in favour of the national team as Real Oviedo striker Samuel Obeng bagged a brace for himself.

Footballghana.com can confirm that the team will today fly out of Ghana to Egypt where the CAF U-23 tournament will be stage.

The team will have 3 days to train and acclimatize with the weather before opening their campaign with a crucial game against Cameroon on Friday at the Cairo International Stadium.

Ghana needs to progress to the finals of the tournament to have a chance of securing qualification to the Olympic Games which is obviously its first priority after missing out over a decade.
