CAF U-23 AFCON Qualifiers: Cremonese forward Felix Afena-Gyan gets late Black Meteors for Algeria tie

U.S Cremonese forward, Felix Afena-Gyan has been handed a late call-up for Black Meteors U-23 qualifiers against Algeria.

The young attacker has been left out of Black Stars' 25-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifiers against Angola.

However, Ibrahim Tanko, who is the head coach of the Meteors has invited the former AS Roma striker for the games.

Coach Ibrahim Tanko and his squad are aiming to secure Ghana's place in the U-23 AFCON tournament, with the first leg of the final qualification round set for March 24th in Annaba, followed by the return leg at the Baba Yara Stadium four days later.

The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which serves as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games, will take place in Morocco in June of this year.

The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Paris.

Afena-Gyan played a vital role in Ghana's qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He starred in the playoff games against Nigeria.
