As part of the plan to advance women’s football in Africa, a total of 30 women coaches currently working with women local teams in the Egyptian League and academies are taking part in a three-day Coaching workshop in Cairo, Egypt.
This is taking place a few days before the kick-off of the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League tournament on Friday, 05 November 2021.
The historical workshop, which is part of the legacy of the hosting of the Women’s Champions League, is organized by CAF Women’s Football Development Department. It aims to leave a legacy for the CAF WCL and empower local coaches who are already working in women’s football structures.
CAF Head of Women’s Football Development, Safia Dayem said: “Coaching education and personal development is key in the advancement of women’s football in Africa. For us as CAF, the TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League is not just another tournament but a platform that will take Leagues to a different level. For this to happen, we have to focus on the product on the field and the quality of coaches are key in driving this.”
The workshop is conducted by the CAF senior instructor and Cote d’Ivoire Women’s National Team Head Coach Clementine Touré and CAF Instructor, Sheryl Botes from South Africa. The duo is also part of the CAF Technical Study Group.
Touré commented: “ Our continent is blessed with so much potential and women's football is now on the ascendance. However, in order not to slow down this development and for us to improve, training and development of mentors and coaches is vital.”
Botes added: “I have seen it in my country how investing in your own coaches and developing women has paid dividends with our own Desiree Ellis. This to me, it confirms the fact that, we must focus in developing local coaches.”
