Caleb Ekuban has revealed why he burst into tears after scoring his first goal for Genoa.

Genoa booked a place in the next round of the Italian Cup with a win over Salernitana with the Ghana striker scoring the only goal of the game.

Ekuban did not hold back tears after the goal, as in the statement given for Italy 1 he expressed his happiness for the first goal with Genoa. On the bench is Andriy Shevchenko, the idol from whom he is learning a lot.

"I am very happy for the goal. The tears after the goal are the result of an explosion dictated by the moment we are going through. I feel good that my goal brought the team qualifying for the next round of the Italian Cup.

"It was not an easy match, this victory is very important to gain confidence and self-esteem," said the African striker, who closed his speech with a comment for Andriy Shevchenko.

"Sheva is an idol for me, he has won everything in this sport. "Every time he talks and explains things to me, I feel admiration and try to benefit as much as possible," said the African striker.

Ekuban joined the Serie A from Trabzonspor this summer in a deal worth 1.8 million euros.
