After months of controversy and talks between the Cameroonian government and CAF , the announcement fell like a knife on Friday evening in Accra . The governing body of African football has indeed decided to withdraw the organization of CAN 2019 in Cameroon , penalized by delays in the progress of the preparatory work.

A sentence that rages in the land of the Indomitable Lions and which raises several questions, including one major: who will organize the next big mass of African football?

The African Football Confederation said in a statement Friday that a cabinet has been recruited and that an "urgent appeal for new country candidates" is launched. And everything should go quickly. The CAF the promises: it will "ensure that a new host country is found by the end of the year."

Morocco, Ghana and South Africa favorites

If Egypt , repeatedly cited by the media in recent days as a possible candidate, has already announced that it will not stand as a candidate, three large African Nations would be favored by CAF.

They are Morocco , unsuccessful candidate for the organization of the 2026 World Cup (assigned to the USA / Mexico / Canada trio), South Africa , the only African country to have hosted a World Cup (in 2010), but also from Ghana, which recently stated that it is standing for election.

It should be remembered that the prestigious continental competition is scheduled from June 15 to July 13, 2019. This new edition has been resized to 24 Nations - compared to 16 previously.
