Can Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah break winless run against Mexico?

Published on: 27 June 2017

Kwasi Appiah will get a shot at recording his first ever win for the senior national football team, the Black Stars of Ghana, against a non-African side in their international friendly game against Mexico tomorrow at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

The Ghanaian coach did not record a victory over any national team outside the CAF Zone during his first stint as head coach of the Black Stars. The best result for Kwesi Appiah in all those matches was a draw. In his first stint with the Black Stars, he managed to play seven international games with non-African sides where he drew two and lost four games. The detailed record is as follows:

29 February, 2012 - Ghana 1-1 Chile Chester, Pennyslvannia, USA 15 August 2012 - China 1-1 Ghana, Guangzhou, Tianhe, China 10 September 2013 - Ghana 1-3 Japan, Kanagawa, Japan 5 May, 2014 - Netherlands 1-0 Ghana 16 June, 2014 - Ghana 1-2 USA 21 June, 2014 - Germany 2-2 Ghana 26 June, 201- Portugal 2-1 Ghana

Kwesi Appiah will be hoping to break that jinx in his second stint with the Black Stars at the NRG stadium tomorrow in Houston. Kwesi Appiah named 22 players for the two matches and travelled with most of the players from Accra. New addictions to the team are: Mohammed Abu (Columbus Crew), Gershon Koffie (New England Revolution), Kwadwo Poku (Miami FC) and David Accam (Chicago Fire).
