Liverpool made short work of Huddersfield Town in a 3-0 midweek Premier League victory that assures they'll stay in fourth place after matchday 25.

It was Liverpool's first return to action after being eliminated from the FA Cup by West Brom over the weekend and the visitors struggled to break down Huddersfield's defence in the opening 20 minutes.

But Emre Can would have Liverpool one up by the 25th minute, smashing a low half-volley from a poor clearance past Jonas Lossl to make it 1-0.

Roberto Firmino doubled the advantage for Jurgen Klopp's team in first-half injury time, finishing at the near post from an extremely tight angle right before the teams headed for the dressing room.

Huddersfield failed to fashion any real threat to get back into the match and Liverpool put proceedings to bed in the 77th minute when Mohamed Salah converted a penalty after Can was brought down in the area.

The result means Tottenham, who play Manchester United on Wednesday, cannot overtake Klopp's team in the table anytime before the next round of matches at the weekend.
