Caparros makes Sevilla return

Published on: 18 June 2018

Sevilla have appointed Joaquin Caparros as their interim head coach after parting company with Vincenzo Montella following a poor run of form.

Montella was shown the door after a run of nine games without a win in all competitions, with the final straw proving to be a 2-1 La Liga reverse at Levante on Saturday.

An official club statement confirmed: "Sevilla FC have dismissed Vincenzo Montella after the side's bad run of results since winning at Manchester United on the 13th of March.

"Since then, the side have gone nine games without a win, including five defeats."

Sevilla last tasted victory when they qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals by winning 2-1 at Manchester United in mid-March, with Bayern Munich proving too strong when the two sides met in the last eight in Europe.

Los Rojiblancos were also thrashed in the final of the Copa del Rey, being thumped 5-0 by Barcelona in the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Meanwhile, the vastly-experienced Caparros returns to the club he previously managed for five years between 2000 and 2005.

He has since enjoyed spells in charge of the likes of Deportivo La Coruna, Athletic Bilbao, Levante and Osasuna.

Caparros' first game in charge comes on Friday evening when they play host to Real Sociedad, with their final three league fixtures of the campaign seeing them face Real Madrid, Real Betis and Alaves.

Sevilla are 11/10 to defeat Sociedad, with the draw priced at 27/10, while the hosts are 8/1 to win the game at the Sanchez Pizjuan 2-1.
