CHAN 2022: Black Galaxies to miss red-carded Daniel Afriyie if they progress

Ghana's Black Galaxies have been dealt a blow at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The team's captain, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, will not be available for selection if they secure qualification to the knockout round. This is due to a red card he received during the match against Sudan on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred in the 97th minute of the game, with Ghana already on their way to victory. Afriyie was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Walieldin Khdir Safour.

Despite this setback, Ghana was still able to secure the win. This was thanks to a penalty that Afriyie converted in the second half, as well as a deflected effort from Konadu Yiadom that found the net, canceling out Al Gozoli Nooh's 31st-minute strike.

Barnieh also had a goal disallowed before his red card, but this had no effect on the outcome of the match. Seidu Suraj secured the points for Ghana, and the team now sits in second place in Group C with three points. They have a real chance of making it to the quarter-finals, but will have to do so without their main man, Barnieh.

Annor Walker, Ghana's coach, will have to come up with a new strategy to overcome this loss. The team will have to fight without their captain, who has been a key player for them so far.
