Published on: 23 January 2023

Ghana is through to the quarterfinal of the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) after Madagascar beat Sudan 3-0 on Monday night in Constantine, Algeria.

The Black Galaxies were waiting for the result of this game to know their fate in the competition as their progression to the next round was dependent on it.

The result now means Ghana will qualify to the quarterfinal as the second-placed team in Group C with six points.

The two-time finalists lost their opening group game to Madagascar and won 3-1 against Sudan in their second group game.

Annor Walker’s side also got three points and three goals from defending champions, Morocco, who withdrew from the competition at the last minute.

The Black Galaxies were to play the home-based Atlas Lions in their final group game but CAF has awarded the win and goals.

Qualifying as Group C runners up means Ghana will face either Cameroon or Niger on Saturday, January 28, who will finish as first and second in Group E.

The Niger vs Cameroon game will be played on Tuesday.
