Charlie Austin scored a brace as Southampton moved into the top half of the Premier League table with a 4-1 victory over managerless Everton.

Dusan Tadic opened the scoring for the Saints in the 18th minute, slotting home after being played in by Ryan Bertrand, before Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised on the stroke of half-time, crashing in a strike from distance that went in off the bar and post.

But Southampton restored their lead shortly after the break with Austin heading a Bertrand cross in off the bar, before the striker doubled his tally six minutes later with another header, this time from a Tadic delivery.

There was still time for a fourth goal for the hosts, with Steven Davis curling home a strike from the edge of the box into the far corner in the 87th minute.
