Charlie Nicholas Says Liverpool Should Sign 18-Year-Old Serie A Star in the Summer

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Liverpool desperately need a new goalkeeper and should look at signing AC Milan's teenage star, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The 18-year-old Italian shot-stopper is one of the most sought-after properties in the footballing world and Nicholas believes his signing would bolster the Reds in an area where they desperately require improvement.

Simon Mignolet and summer signing Loris Karius have both endured indifferent campaigns with both falling foul of regular errors and it has cost the Merseyside giants in their bid for European football.

"They need a top goalkeeper, I would suggest Liverpool must be interested in Joe Hart if they're serious about progressing," Nicholas said, as perSky Sports.

"The AC Milan teenager Gianluigi Donnarumma is another one they should be looking at."

Donnarumma is seen as the natural heir to Juventus legend, Gianluigi Buffon, and his performances in Milan this season have only added fuel to this fire.

Despite his tender age, the Italian has played every minute in Serie A this season, keeping nine clean sheets in total.

Liverpool's defence has also come under scrutiny this season and Nicholas believes Jurgen Klopp's men need a new centre-back with pace to enhance their defensive options.

"They need another centre-back with a bit of pace. Joel Matip has pace but always seems to be injured. A left-back and a steely midfield player are the other two areas Klopp needs to be looking at," he said.

Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva have been used at centre-back in recent games due to Dejan Lovren's prolonged absence and despite some positive performances, it is clear the Reds need reinforcements.
