Chelsea, Spurs renew battle for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley

Chelsea and Tottenham are ready to do battle again for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

The Daily Express says Tottenham are preparing a January move for the Everton midfielder, as part of a "double swoop" involving Luke Shaw of Manchester United.

Chelsea remain keen on England man Barkley, having been unable to agree a deal back in the summer. Barkley has not played since due to a horrible-looking hamstring injury.

He is back in action though, back on the pitch in a behind-closed-doors game at USM Finch Farm last week and ready to get back into competitive football.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce said last week: “You cannot see or get too many players who are more talented than him in today's age of football. How he uses that talent is the big question for Ross now.

“He had a knockback with the injury, he's been at loggerheads with the club over his future but that has been out of my hands.

“I wouldn't say it is done and dusted but I would say it doesn't look likely [that he will sign a deal]. I will use him because he is contracted to the club. I don't think he would ever shirk his responsibility."
