Former Black Stars defender John Paintsil believes new Ghana boss Chris Hughton can win back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles with Kwasi Appiah as one of his assistants.

The 41-year-old has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to add Kwasi Appiah, who has had two stints as Ghana coach, to Hughton’s backroom staff.

He believes Appiah knows the ins-and-outs of the Black Stars and will play a huge role in the success of Hughton.

“What he needs to do is to have someone like Kwasi Appiah I mentioned,” Paintsil told Mining City Radio.

“When Chris Hughton get Kwesi Appiah in his team, they can even win the Nations Cup back-to-back because, him having that experience, and Kwesi Appiah also having that experience and also knowing the culture of the game, I think that will be all.”

The GFA confirmed Hughton’s appointment on Sunday as head coach of the national team, with George Boateng and Didi Dramani maintained as his assistants.
