Black Stars technical advisor Chris Hughton is elated Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey has been handed his maiden Ghana call-up for September friendlies.

Lamptey was among six players who switched their international allegiance to Ghana. London-born, the 21-year-old represented England at youth levels.

He had looked set to switch to the West African nation after asking to be left out of the England Under-21 squad for the European U21 Championship qualifiers.

“Lamptey came after my time in Brighton but I have seen a lot of him. I knew him at his time in Chelsea, very adaptable player. His position at Brighton has very much been as a right-back but I think in progression I’ve seen him play in other positions, in central midfield but also at Brighton in a more advanced position because they tend to change the shape,” Hughton raved on TV3.

“The beauty with someone like Lamptey is of course he’s young, he’s enthusiastic, he’s very excited about the prospect of being involved but he has a lot of adaptability on where he can play. He has pace,” he added.

Ghana will play Brazil on Friday, September 23, at Stade Oceane in Le Harve- France before taking on Nicaragua at Estadio Francisco Artes Carrasco in Lorca, Spain on Tuesday, September 27, 2022.
