Chris Hughton must improve - GFA ExCO member Dr Randy Abbey

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Randy Abbey says he has been unimpressed with the performance of Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton.

The former Premier League manager was named the head coach of the Ghana national team in February earlier this year with George Boateng and Didi Dramani as his assistant coaches.

Hughton signed a 21-month deal following the resignation of Otto Addo after the World Cup in Qatar where the Black Stars exited at the group phase.

Under Hughton, the Black Stars has still not lost a game after three games played. The team has recorded a win and two draws.

“We are not too happy, we think there has to be a lot of improvement which needs to be made. We also don’t have all the time in the world, so we need to be fast about it.”

“We think there’s a lot of work to be done because we had a lot of expectations for Hughton and his team of Dramani and Boateng. Based on the fact they’ve been around the team for a long while, they could hit the ground running," he added.

Chris Hughton and his charges will take on the Central African Republic (CAR) in the final round of games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in September.

Ghana must win to cement its place in the AFCON which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.
