Christensen fighting for his place

Published on: 13 November 2018

Out-of-favour Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has played down suggestions that he may seek a move away from the club in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old Denmark international became a first-team regular for the Blues last season, but has not appeared in the Premier League at all following the summer arrival of new head coach Maurizio Sarri.

It's always difficult for a player, but we'll see what happens.

Christensen, who has started in both the League Cup and the Europa League this season, had previously suggested that he would have to consider his options if the situation remains the same.

However, the centre-back is now content to stay put and hope to impress Sarri with his efforts in training.

He told Sky Sports News: "Things are different from last season. I played a lot of games, but this season it hasn't been like that. It's always difficult for a player, but we'll see what happens.

"If you asked every player that's not playing if they're happy, they're going to say 'no'. Everyone wants to play.

"I can't do anything else but train and do my best. Every time I get that opportunity, I have to do well and show Sarri that he can count on me.

"You don't want to sit around and wait for it. You want to play straight away and that's why we all play football."

Chelsea remain unbeaten after 12 games played in the Premier League so far this season and lie in third place, four points behind leaders and defending champions Manchester City.

The Blues are 20/1 to win the title this season, while they are 1/5 to finish in the top four, with Chelsea 5/1 to triumph in the Europa League.
