Christian Atsu: I'm getting used to English football

Ghana international Christian Atsu says he is slowly adapting to the physical demands of English football.

Since arriving at Chelsea from Porto in 2013, Atsu has struggled to establish himself with failed loan spells at Everton and Bournemouth.

He is now on loan at championship side Newcastle United where he seems to have rediscovered his form.

“The Championship is very difficult compared to the Premier League. I think I’m really adapting to the league, the physical aspect of the game, and I’m getting the opportunity from Rafa”

Atsu says he takes full responsibility for his failings in past loan spells as he has taken time to adapt to the speed of English football during his three years in the country:

“I have to be honest, I’ve had a very difficult time in the English league,” he said. “To adapt to the style of play was difficult – everything was quicker. I had little opportunity to prove myself but in football, you cannot blame anybody. You have to take responsibility.”

After just one league start in two loan spells at Premier League clubs, Rafa Benitez has given Atsu more opportunities already to shine at the Magpies.
