Former Black Stars captain, John Mensah has eulogized the Christian Atsu, describing him as ‘respectful and humble’.

Mensah made this statement following a visit to the family of the late 31-year-old together with Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG) members last week Thursday.

Atsu was confirmed dead last week after he was trapped in a rubble for 12 days following a 7.8 earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria that has killed over 50,000 people.

The former Sunderland centre back speaking said that despite not playing with Christian Atsu, he has been told good stories about Christian Atsu.

“Christian Atsu was respectful and humble. I didn’t play with him but I saw him a couple of times. What happened was sad and unfortunate. We send our condolences to the family and we assure them of our support. Every Ghanaian is hurt by the development and we send our regrets to the family,” he said.

Atsu was a member of the Black Stars squad that played at the 2014 World Cup and also emerged as the best player of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Equatorial Guinea.

His family has settled on March 4 as the day for the one-week observation.
