CK Akonnor questions how CAF and FIFA handles COVID-19 related issues

Ghana travelled without the English and German-based players because South Africa is placed on the COVID-19 red list of the countries mentioned since the players will have to isolate for 10 days when they return to their respective clubs.

The players left out were Daniel Amartey (Leicester), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Jeffrey Schlupp (Crystal Palace), Andy Yiadom (Reading), Baba Rahman (Reading), and Daniel Kofi Kyereh (St.Pauli).

CK Akonnor speaking to the media on Sunday ahead of the game against Bafana Bafana discussed COVID-19 denying teams full squad and other disadvantages.

Coach Akonnor said COVID-19 has severely disrupted plans not only for him but other national team coaches across the World.

"The whole issue has been a problem, not just me but other national team coaches across the World. Today, you have a plan, tomorrow you wake up and a player has COVID-19 and he cannot join the team,"

"Others are not allowed to join the team for the same reason. I don’t know if CAF and FIFA are handling the situation well because one may ask, can’t we play somewhere else if we cannot bring our players here," he quizzed.

"There are so many questions to answer and its not making us comfortable. It’s so difficult. We come under severe pressure from our Nation, we have to win at all cost yet this COVID-19 issue has become a major setback and I don’t know if CAF and FIFA are handling the situation very well," he added.
