The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has refuted allegations that the association has increased the prize money for the winner of the 2023/24 league season just to score political points.

According to him, the decision to increase the prize money from GHS300,000 to GHS500,000 has nothing to do with the upcoming presidential election of the GFA.

"The reason to increase the prize money has nothing to do with the elections you will recall that aside 2019/20 league that we played and didn't finish because of COVID from there on every year we increase the money the prize money for the league winner," Henry Asante Twum said in an interview with Peace FM.

He further explained, "So every year there is progress we move from one step to the other from 200,000 we brought it to 250,000 2021/22 recently when we finished we brought it from 250,000 to 300,000. That is the money Medeama received so it is progressive."

Besides the GHS500,000 prize money for the Ghana Premier League winner, the other clubs that finish in the top 10 will also be entitled to some good money.

The GFA explains that the decision to reward the top 10 clubs with cash is to make the league very competitive.
