Claudio Santini banned for racially abusing Shaka Mawuli

The governing body that runs the Serie C has banned Padova player Claudio Santini for ten matches after racially insulting central midfielder Shaka Mawuli during a Serie C game.

Only a few days after Pisa forward Michele Marconi received a similar penalty for an incident in Serie B, the authorities have now taken action in Serie C as well.

Padova striker Claudio Santini was suspended for ten games after using racist insults at Sambenedettese 22-year-old player Shaka Mawuli during their Serie C match on January 17.

It means that Claudio Santini will be unable to compete in the upcoming playoffs with his team.

Football authorities in the lower leagues in Italy in recent times have taken a firm stance, not to condone players who abuse other players during games.

Fans have also been cautioned with stadium bans and law enforcement getting involved in some instances.

Central midfielder Shaka Mawuli joined Serie C side Sambenedettese from Ravenna last summer.
